Today was 'akshaya trithiya'- an auspicious day (known to many only recently owing to the numerous jewellery ads popping up in the television) which is believed to return multi-fold rewards for all the good deeds that we do today. Also it is believed that it is the most appropriate occassion to buy gold as it is supposed to be a day of flourishment. Whatever we may buy today(especially gold) is supposed to flourish in the year long. This custom may be new to most of us, but its seriously followed in many parts of our country-karnataka, chennai, north india etc. In kerala, some believe that it was on this day that our 'Parasurama' threw his axe and created our place. So its our mother-land's birthday too! I just wanted to share this new found festive with all of you and sorry for this belated post. Dont worry, for pple who want to try their luck, i promise i'll inform the date of next year's 'akshaya thrithiya' in advance.. ;)

@divakar: maybe it is arun..but one thing is sure tht this is indeed an auspicious day for sooo many south indians & for some north indians too..here, we malayalees came to know abt this, this late n thru the jewellery ads.
Ya arun i also had the same thought these days...the day abt which v vent heard all these 19 years and suddently popping up...its sure the jewellery owners take gr8 advantage of this day...but i just had a luk at the calendar and found for my surprise the day quoted as one among special days...and tht too the calendar of vssc and not alappat and alukkas...may b coz thts auspicious for the north indians...wht ashayatritiya for us???its all for the rich and the jewellery owners!!!!
